Head In The Sand

Interesting that the shoreline at Charlotte beach and Durand beach in Rochester is sandy while what used to be the beach at Webster Park is all rocks. I guess the bay that forms the Rochester harbor is more protected from the rough seas. I feel a lot better now.

  1. One of the reasons for the sandy beaches is that for years the Army Corps of Engineers periodically raked out the beaches, removing everything but sand. Rock Beach aka Windsor Beach, used to be a wide, sandy beach when I was growing up but now is more dune-like with small trees and shrubs and there are a lot more rocks in the water. Durand and Ontario beaches still get the treatment by the City as far as I know.
